High Impact Action Track
Talk To My Friends and Colleagues
Community
I will research the social or environmental issues in my community that matter to me and tell 5 friends and/or colleagues each day about what I learn.
Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
High Impact Action Track
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Waste
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 2 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 20 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Community
Join my Neighborhood Association
I will join my neighborhood association or another local group of decision makers.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
France Poulain 10/23/2019 7:25 AMI've consigned clothes and purchased second hand clothes as well as attended clothing swaps in my community. It's a great way to avoid fast fashion. I also learned that something like 85% of clothes that are thrown out or donated still have 75% of their life left which is really interesting and also emphasizes the importance of buying second hand when possible. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Join my Neighborhood AssociationHow can your community support inclusive decision making?
France Poulain 10/18/2019 9:51 AMBy actively recruiting and encouraging community members to be part of the community association and attend events like town halls to have their voices heard. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Reduce Single-Use DisposablesBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
France Poulain 10/18/2019 7:10 AMI bring my own grocery and produce bags. I shop in bulk with re-usable containers. I bring my own coffee mug and cup for cold drinks. I use bamboo toothbrushes, bar soap, bar shampoo and bar conditioner. I use re-usable bamboo facial rounds instead of disposable ones. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
France Poulain 10/18/2019 7:07 AMI try to eat foods that are in season in my area to reduce the emissions caused by growing food out of season or transporting food in from elsewhere. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
France Poulain 10/18/2019 7:06 AMThe amount of resources required for factory farming is detrimental to the environment. Natural areas around the world are also destroyed to make room for factory farming which destroys habitats and ecosystems. -
France Poulain 10/15/2019 11:05 AMIn the month of September, I pledged that I wouldn't purchase any new clothes or household items (ie. furniture, decor, etc.) for the entire month. It's really made me realize that I can use what I already have and it's saved me money! This month I needed a new pair of jeans and a sweater. I was able to find both at a thrift store. I also had clothes that I no longer wear and decided to consign them which will mean that they aren't sent to the landfill and I get a bit of money back at the same time.
