REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Jeannette Padin 9/30/2019 12:36 PMIncorporating garlic and onion to most of my dishes will not only make them taste delicious but will make them a healthier dish. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Jeannette Padin 9/30/2019 12:27 PMTraveling! Learning new culture and learning more about food around the world! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Jeannette Padin 9/30/2019 12:20 PMI love to preserve fruit such as mangoes and tamarind. I also love to grow my grains (such as pigoen peas). I will take the grain out of its case and freeze them in reusable freezing bags. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodConsider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?
Jeannette Padin 9/30/2019 12:16 PMFor me is gardening in a patio container but it is important to have an adequate drainage in the pot and ensure that the soil doesn't drain through the pot with the excess water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIt is often said that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” What is your response to that statement?
Jeannette Padin 9/30/2019 12:03 PMNot only can small organic farming feed the world, but I believe strongly that it is the only thing that can save and heal our world. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?
Jeannette Padin 9/30/2019 11:56 AMReduce our waste - In daily life, we waste a lot of things such as plastics, paper, etc. We can recycle these wastes instead of throwing them in a trash can. We can categorize them into non-recyclable and recyclable products and send recyclable products to a recycling company. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyHow is your region being affected by climate change? How will it be affected in the future?
Jeannette Padin 9/30/2019 11:51 AMPuerto Rico’s climate is changing. The Commonwealth has warmed by more than one degree (F) since the mid- 20th century, and the surrounding waters have warmed by nearly two degrees since 1901. The sea is rising about an inch every 15 years, and heavy rainstorms are becoming more severe. -
