Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Waste
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs

REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action TrackBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Adrien Pacheco 10/22/2019 3:49 PMI used to only drink bottled water now i carry a cup and drink tap -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodIt is often said that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” What is your response to that statement?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Adrien Pacheco 10/22/2019 3:47 PMPeople eat more because social gathering usually involve food and people with more money can afford that more often??? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Adrien Pacheco 10/22/2019 3:46 PMNo this is not surprising at all.
I would rather use the money on vacations! -
Adrien Pacheco 10/22/2019 3:29 PMI have saved on plastic by having one cup at my desk for drinks and packing my own coffee, tea and getting water from the fountain. Also, it has been my personal goal to pack lunch every day in a re-usable container that is healthier and organic. This has also help me save money and we all know saving money is a good feeling.
I have been getting out more and have been more active by taking my kids outdoors and going on daily walks around the neighborhood, we've also made a few new friends, imagine that (a dog made it easier)! Meet Dizzy below.
Before bed I have been getting back into books that can teach me a thing or two about life and my personal interests. My current read is "The Greatest You" by Trent Shelton and I highly recommend it for anyone trying to find purpose outside of work.
