Melanie Odette 10/18/2019 11:41 PMI've been eco-conscious for decades. In NY in the 90s, growing up, I was so proud when the mandatory recycling laws were passed. I've wondered why they didn't do that everywhere, even as everyone I know b*tched about it. In college at UMiami, there were no recycling bins anywhere I could find. Very few in grad school at USouthFlorida. What the deuce?! As a marine biologist, I've been following the climate crisis for YEARS. First, everyone objected to "Global Warming," because "then why do we still get snow? Why is there still winter?" It's difficult for me to control my ire and eye-rolling as I educate people through this now-emergency. Why do I do this? For Mother Earth, my home. For my family, my heart. For the oceans, my soul. For the Amazon, and the arctic, and the Antarctic, and all the species that are annihilated before we've even discovered them. Watching has been been beautiful at turns, and painful at turns. It's becoming more and more painful. How can I NOT act? -
Melanie Odette 9/30/2019 12:50 AMWe recycle everything we can. We buy earth-friendly, eco-conscious, sustainable products as much as possible. But there are always more steps that can be taken, by each one of us, and I'm engaged and ready!!
