Andrew's actions
High Impact Action Track
Stay on the Ground
Transportation
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Food
Join a Local CSA
I will sign up for a local CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture).
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) cooked with organic ingredients each day.
Simplicity
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a walk for 10 minutes each day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 40 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Create Your Own Action
Learn about climate change impact on coral reefs
I will spend one to two hours learning about climate change impact on coral reefs. The oceans are the heat sink of the world, they slow down the full effects of greenhouse gas warming of the atmosphere. Coral reefs are at the front line of being impacted by global warming and are currently one of the most threatened ecosystems on Earth.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Choose Organic IngredientsIt is often said that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” What is your response to that statement?
Andrew O'Toole 10/18/2019 2:32 PMWhy not? If we focused on organic and biodynamic farming practices and locally sourcing our food then we could produce enough food for everyone, you just might have to forego year-round apples and tomatoes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Go for a Daily WalkFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Andrew O'Toole 10/18/2019 2:30 PMWalking to and from work helps me process the projects I'm working on so I don't have unresolved issues floating around in my head once I get home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Andrew O'Toole 10/18/2019 2:28 PMLook at different ways to wear or combine the clothes you already have. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Join a Local CSADependable fresh food, better prices (cutting out carbon-heavy supply chain and grocery stores), supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these benefits (or others not listed here) inspires you the most?
Andrew O'Toole 10/14/2019 3:29 PMMy favorite part of being a member of a CSA is getting seasonal produce that reflects what's happening with the weather right here, right now. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Stay on the GroundWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
Andrew O'Toole 10/14/2019 3:26 PMtraveling by train or bus, especially for regional trips, has a much lower carbon footprint per traveler than flying or even taking your personal vehicle. -
Andrew O'Toole 10/14/2019 9:15 AMWalking and taking the train to daycare had the added benefit of reducing noise pollution (from the screaming that goes with the car seat)!
