Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 20 minute(s) each day.
Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
I will prevent water runoff and increase absorbency by mulching the base of plants and trees at my home or work.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 3.4lbs (1.5kg) a month or 41lbs (18.6kg) a year by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Pam Neild 10/22/2019 10:56 AMI finally completed my waste audit this weekend. It was what I expected - a lot of plastic film and hard plastics that can't be recycled. While I know that I "vote" with my money every time I make a purchase, I think some of the burden must switch to the product manufacturer. I'd like to see stricter regulations so the consumer doesn't have to do all of the heavy lifting. -
Pam Neild 10/17/2019 9:32 AMThis is my weekend for my personal waste audit. I have pretty good idea of what I will find, a lot of plastic film, but I still look forward to doing this. I plan to include my husband and daughter. I doubt they think about garbage and recycling as often as I do. -
Pam Neild 10/16/2019 9:02 AMI finally set up a space in my house to collect all of the unwanted catalogs and junk mail I've been receiving. Now that I have the space, I will systematically write to each company requesting that I be removed from their catalog list. I tear off the address label that they use as reference and send it along with a note saying to remove my address from the list. There are other ways, but I find this the most effective. It takes a few months, but the junk mail eventually disappears. I did this once before for EcoChallenge, but it didn't last forever. Luckily, there's a lot less this time.-
Holly Walla 10/22/2019 11:32 AMI have also used the prepaid envelop that comes with credit card adds with a note inside that says remove me from your list. It also takes a few times but it works.

Love Jonson 10/21/2019 1:02 PMThat's a great idea! So you've found that doing this by mail actually works?

Pam Neild 10/09/2019 8:40 AMI found the docuseries "Rotten" on Nextflix last night. The first in the series is about the avocado industry in Mexico and Chile and the cartels that terrorize the good people trying to make a living. Good grief. We've got so much work to do. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Pam Neild 10/02/2019 9:09 AMI like this reflection question because I have a kiddo that isn't fond of exercise. She does love to hang out with me though. I think we'll go for a walk after dinner and "chat".
