  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

This is already a pretty big part of my daily habit because I need to make sure I drink at least 2 liters of water a day to manage my kidney health and that just isn't sustainable if you have to carry around a bunch of plastic water bottles. The hardest thing I have found is making sure that I can refill my water bottle throughout the day.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

In more cases, when I don't have a reusable bag handy, I try to either carry out the items I have without a bag (or put them in my purse if they are small), or if a paper bag is an option, I do that as well. I try to make sure I always have reusable bags available in my car.

If I do end up with plastic bags, I try to make sure they get to a designated plastic bag recycling collection point.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
High Impact Action Track Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Anna Nadon 10/23/2019 9:51 AM
The single-use items I use the most and am actively working to cut out of my life are plastic bags and straws. We have reusable grocery bags that are great (when you remember to bring them) and I recently purchased some steel straws that I can take with me to restaurants.

How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

    Anna Nadon's avatar

By going on walks with my friends in our neighborhoods or local nature reserves on days when we have more time (or the weather is nicer).

Make sure all lights are turned off, set back the temperature on our thermostat when we are not home, and use low flow shower heads and faucets.

We are seeing cooler and later summers, longer and colder winters, and far more rain then average. I imagine these patterns will only continue to grow and change what we understand as normal.
