  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?

It gives people a voice in how their food is produced, and what sustainable harvesting practices look like.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

I've found that thrift shopping or second had stores have amazing stuff! I shop second hand before buying something new.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Reduce refined sugar
Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?

    virginia Munson's avatar
    virginia Munson 10/23/2019 7:48 AM
Yes i felt like i was addicted to sugar, and I say that because the first few days of cutting back I would have cravings for it. I feel better not, although I haven't completely cut sugar out... it is hot coco season after all. :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

I found that there were a couple of places in our neighbor hood that we could go to. We will have to start another recycling area in our house for those items and take trips as needed. I'm glad we are able to dispose of some of these items at our office too. Like batteries, its so nice having a convenient place to recycle them.

    Simplicity Meditate
What would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?

I would invest more time reflecting on my impact on the environment around me, whether its the people I talk to or the trash I throw out on a daily basis.

Keeping track of positive moments in my life has helped me appreciate just how many there are.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

First thing I do is ask if paper bags are available. We use paper bags for our recycling each week, so we tend to stock pile them if possible. I think beyond that I carry things out in my hands or in my purse. Luckily my purse is oversized so it can hold some small items in an emergency situation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

By recognizing the positive in your life, helps you  recognize how you can be a positive force in others lives.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

    virginia Munson's avatar
    virginia Munson 10/02/2019 7:33 AM
Yes, that surprises me. I had no idea it was that much money. Although we are only a house hold of two that still means we are throwing about $750 each year!! That would pay for another comic con trip. Emerald City Comic Con here I come!
