What's good about this challenge is that it gets you to do things you've been meaning to do for ages. Bought a new eco bandit washing machine today to replace our 15 year old bruiser. Colder washes, will also use significantly less water.

    Transportation Work from Home
It takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. Are you in an industry that would allow you to work from home? What are some obstacles you might find yourself facing while working from home?

    Working from home:
The main obstacle for me for working from home is that I have a laboratory based job. However my boss is supportive of working from home and I try to compile experimental write ups, reports, presentations to productively fill a day. To be honest I get much more done working at home as there are fewer distractions.

    Exercise daily challenge:
Lunch time run at work. Even though the site is right in the middle of an industrial hub, within 5 minutes run, you can still find places to connect with nature and reset the balance.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

From doing the energy audit challenge the biggest annual costs / electricity use was from our baseline consumption. i.e all of the appliances that are left on all the time and things that are left on standby. That is why I do this daily challenge at home and at work, to reduce that consumption.

At home we get our electricity from a supplier who offers a renewable energy only tariff (solar / wind / etc). So that is good. The UK balance is getting there but we still have a lot of generation from coal and gas fired powered stations. Nuclear too, which you can make your own mind up about whether that is a good or bad thing.
