Skip the Straw

Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

With some friends/family members I spend a lot of time in nature, go for a hike or do some activities with my horse.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
Reducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

I barely need to print out documents so I think at this point I don't have a big impact on the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

    • I should try to minimize the unnecessary wrapping of the groceries I buy
    • I should repair things which doesn't work properly, instead of throwing them away and buy something new
    • i should refuse things which are not really important to me (I tend to buy something that I hardly need)

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

There are so many places where you just can't buy reusable bottles because they are not offered (e.g. cinema, theme parks, at the beach,...).
I never buy water in plastic bottles, because if I need some water I take tap water. The biggest problem is that I like my water with some flavour like sirup, but almost every sirup is filled in plastic bottles. When I buy sirup in reusable bottles they are very expensive. So if the producer could adjust their prices I could renounce to use plastic bottles.
