Angela's actions
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 30 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 30-minute walk outside each day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Waste
Carry my Trash
I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 10 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Angela M. 10/23/2019 7:39 AMI think it rings very true for me because I love being outdoors and exploring both city and rural areas. It's a very different experience spending a lot of time indoors compared to getting out into the natural environment. Personally, I think being in the outdoors makes one much more aware of theirs surroundings and senses. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Angela M. 10/11/2019 8:30 AMThere are many ways to obtain "new" pieces without buying into fast fashion. You can go to clothing swaps, thrift and trade with your friends. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Angela M. 10/11/2019 8:28 AMI have become more mindful in what I consume and I think it's very unnecessary to use single plastics when you can carry something that's light and collapsible like my Stojo. I love it so much and when you start showing others that it's possible, they will follow too. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Recycle Everything I CanWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Angela M. 10/07/2019 8:18 AMI know that black plastic is not recyclable in Toronto because sorting equipment can't locate black plastic which is bizarre. I think the city needs to make way more effort to ban the use of black plastic for takeout containers since most people just end up throwing them out. I would like to be better at bringing my own take-out containers! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Reduce Single-Use DisposablesBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Angela M. 10/07/2019 7:32 AMI love using my collapsible coffee mug and mesh bags for produce - they're both small and convenient to bring around! -
Angela M. 10/04/2019 7:50 AMI'm going to try to be more cautious and remember to carry my reusable mug/straw when I'm out during the weekend! It's always been easier for me during the week since I'll already have them at my desk.
