REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Go for a Daily WalkFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Janis McDonald 10/13/2019 7:20 PMTaking a walk today was excellent - I have been sick at home for the past three days. Not leaving my house, resting. The time outside in the park, moving my body was a nice change. Helped my energy level. -
Janis McDonald 10/13/2019 12:27 PMI am doing okay, but not as good as I would like to be doing. I fell sick for a few of the days and just fell back on old habits. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Janis McDonald 10/13/2019 12:26 PMI think people see eating meat as a status symbol. Growing up in Houston, when we did have money to spend on extras, we bought meat. The perception was that if we were living off of beans (no meat) we were poor.
Eating meat is a complicated issue. It is helping destroy our planet, livelihoods depend on it, but it is animal cruelty. So many social norms to change. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersFive minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?
Janis McDonald 10/02/2019 8:11 PMI have gotten really lax on my water consumption. My next step is to watch my usage while washing dishes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Janis McDonald 10/02/2019 8:09 PMI always feel so guilty when I let food go bad and have to toss it. There is no good excuse. I appreciate this challenge to do better. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Reduce refined sugarBefore you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?
Janis McDonald 10/02/2019 8:07 PMI didn’t do very well today. Felt tired after an early morning, high energy event. Turned to sugar for support and energy. Need to go for a walk next time. -
Janis McDonald 9/28/2019 8:04 AMI’m excited to challenge myself on doing more for Mother Earth. One of my challenges is to eat more meatless recipes. If people have recommendations, feel free to share.
Go team!-
Pam Neild 10/01/2019 9:02 AMWay to go Janis. I cook vegetarian at home. One of my fav cookbooks is the Farmer John's Cookbook. https://www.amazon.com/Farmer-Johns-Cookbook-Real-Vegetables/dp/1423600142 I love it because it's divided by vegetable, so if I have a bunch of sweet potatoes I don't know what to do with I can open to that chapter and see what's what. If you'd like to borrow it LMK and we'll arrange something. Have fun.
