    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

Straight from Xcel energy website -
    https://www.xcelenergy.com/energy_portfolio/electricity/power_generation
    :
We generate reliable, affordable electricity from an increasingly cleaner mix of energy sources. Across our eight-state service territory, 38% of the electricity on our power grid in 2018 came from carbon-free sources: biomass, hydroelectric and nuclear plants, wind turbines and solar panels. The rest was generated by fossil fuels, including coal and natural gas.

In total, the plants we own are capable of producing more than 18,000 megawatts of electricity. One megawatt of power provides enough electricity to serve nearly 1,100 typical homes.

In Connecticut, more than half of the state's electricity is produced from the state's largest-capacity power plant, the 2 gigawatt Millstone Nuclear Power Station. Natural gas provides over 30 percent of the state's supply and coal contributes 8 percent. Connecticut has no fossil fuel reserves.

A few interior designers from MSR went to the Haworth HQ and toured their manufacturing facility. They are a Zero waste-to-landfill company (globally - holy moly) and we got to see first hand their recycling processes and recycling categories they sort by. They also partner with local organizations for donating! Great experience all around

Waste Visit a Waste Management Facility
Field trip! What a fun way to learn about our impact and consumption! What facility did you visit? What did you learn? Did you take anyone with you?

Minnesota and other Northern states folks - fall / winter is here! Using all parts of foods is highly sutainable and beneficital. Can we all say - "veggie stock for soups!?" All ya gotta do is boil all the discarded parts of your veggies in water to make stock, and you've got a delicious base for your recipes. Yummm...hearty soups and stews are sounding better by the chilly minute.

Hiiiii people - something that is incredibly trendy already but also awesomely sustainable - thrifting! It's really great when you can find some classics and well-made vintage pieces, for cheap! And typically one-of-a-kind. IN THE NAME OF FASHION YAAAS.

I love the waxed paper/textile products that are a substitute for cellophane aka "saran-wrap." It's incredible how much the products we're grown up using are acutally terrible, and how easy it is to change the habit of using them mindlessly!

Unpluggin unused items until needed  - is that a thing? I've heard a lot about this approach...and to be honest...I'm not sure if it's a hoax? Do objects that are plugged in but not turned on still using energy?

Just tried some delicious veggies via Dan and KV in our office. I'd love to learn more about other lacto-fermented foods that benefit our gut biomes and ways to improve our health while being sustainable!

Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
