I spent 60 minutes learning about our affects on the things around us. I used to think fossil fuels were the main cause for climate change but I couldn't be more wrong. The main cause for climate change is animal agriculture. Livestock such as cattle, pigs, and chicken release methane which is a greens house gas that has 23 times worse of an effect on climate change than carbon dioxide. Not only does animal agriculture contribute to climate change but it also uses tons of gallons to make one pound of meat. It takes 660 gallons of water to make a 1/3 pond burger . 1 pound of beef requires about 1,799 gallons of water. While some of this water is used for the irrigation of the grains and grass that the cattle eat it is still loads of water.
After learning this one of the simplest ways I thought i could make a difference is to stop buying as many meat products. Buying meat products only fuels the meat industry. Obviously my parents argue that you need protein from meat to grow healthy but I don't have to eat red meat since it is the biggest producer of methane gas. I could simply eat only white meat like chicken.
