Nicole's actions
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Food
Try a New Way to Prep
I will try a new method of food preparation, such as canning, pickling, or baking bread.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Community
Meet My Neighbors
I will meet 1 new neighbor(s) each day.
Community
Express My Support
I will find out who in my state makes decisions that impact the environment and express my support for more environmental actions.
Create Your Own Action
Plastic Film Recycling
I will collect and save plastic film, used as food packaging and plastic shopping bags throughout the challenge to bring awareness to how much waste one family generates.
Water
Eco-friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Water
Fix Leaky Faucets
I will fix faucets or report leaky faucets to facilities that have been wasting up to 9 gallons (34 L) of water per faucet every day.
High Impact Action Track
Plant Trees
Nature
I will plant 1 tree(s) in my community, public parks, or backyard.
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) cooked with organic ingredients each day.
Food
Whole Foods Diet
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) each day free of processed foods.
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
High Impact Action Track
Stay on the Ground
Transportation
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.

Nicole Reagan 10/23/2019 7:45 AMI ate better and bought organic cooking ingredients and I started Composting again!
Really cool way to bring awareness and also give those a kick in the rear when needed.

Nicole Reagan 10/23/2019 7:42 AMI watched food documentaries on how to eat and garden more sustainably minded. I fixed my shower faucet that had a small drip! On my own mind you! I met Neighbors and got more exercise by sticking to a walking schedule with my dogs. -
Nicole Reagan 10/23/2019 7:40 AMThis was a lot of fun! It really got me thinking and reminded me how easy some of these things are to do! I had already owned metal straws, but they admittingly were in my silverware drawer at home! Since this challenge has begun, they live in my purse and I absolutely love them! Today I dropped of 12lbs of plastic film to be recycled into decking composite that I saved and collected from the community over the last month. THat doesn't seem like a lot, but believe me its A LOT! -
