Energy
Online Energy Audit
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Community
Raise Money For a Nonprofit
I will raise money to support Ecochallenge.org or another nonprofit.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Research Impact InvestingHow might impact investing help you better live your values?
Manda Magee 10/23/2019 10:44 AMThis was really interesting. I spent about 30 minutes reading about it. But the problem is, there wasn't anything anywhere that said, " to get started click here.". . . . Seems like I need more time to actually do it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?
Manda Magee 10/23/2019 10:43 AMMan, this was overdue. It's amazing how quickly you can get involved in life and not keep up with your own health. So important to do. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Raise Money For a NonprofitHow do/can Ecochallenge.org programs help you develop a stronger sense of community?
Manda Magee 10/18/2019 3:29 AMAlthough the bake sale isn't until the 28th, we have 11 bakers lined up for this year's Green Week Bake Sale. Money goes towards the Ocean Conservancy website.
https://oceanconservancy.org/
We've consistently raised between $400 and $600 with our bake sales.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Online Energy AuditWhat most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint?
Manda Magee 10/15/2019 3:42 AMThis was amazing. ConEd lets you download your utility history. I made some graphs of mine. I can see my life events in there. I also can see the two summers I had the smart window AC unit plugged in how much less electricity I paid. With our second baby, someone is in the house all day with her. How to reduce energy? Go to work and vacate the house for 10 hours.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Support Pollution ReductionWhat environmental factors affect human health in your region, and how do they affect it?
Manda Magee 10/09/2019 2:53 AMAlthough I started out learning about pollution, I got distracted by the UN good health and well being goals link. Most of the content from the UN was improving health for children in Eastern Asia, Northern Africa and Southern Asia. I found myself thinking about something I read about with Mother mortality rates in the US and how there is a racial discrepancy. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/07/health/pregnancy-deaths-.html
The below abstract which was published in 2000 outlines that the potential reason for the increased mortality rates for women of color can be, "quality of prenatal delivery and postpartum care, as well as interaction between health-seeking behaviors and satisfaction with care may explain part of this difference." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1595019/
Almost 20 years since the first article and nothing has changed. No effort has been made to correct the disparity.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Recycle Everything I CanWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Manda Magee 10/05/2019 1:42 PMI was throwing away condiments and rinsing the bottles. I was thinking I wish they had smaller versions. It seems I often buy something for a recipe only to use a little of it then throw the rest out the following year. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Manda Magee 10/04/2019 2:59 AMFor those in One Penn office, I'm also turning off my headset. I'm finding that it saves a lot of battery life if I turn it off at night. If I leave it on then I loose charge in 2 days. If I turn it off I can go a week and a half without draining. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Manda Magee 10/02/2019 3:18 PMThis was my favorite quote. “Unfortunately, cheap clothing has a high cost for people and the planet.”.
That seems to apply to more than just clothing. -
Manda Magee 9/30/2019 3:56 AMLast days before the challenge begins. There's a real focus this year on getting more members as well as increased activity from previous members.-
