REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Sandra Mack 10/23/2019 8:05 AMSome of my electricity is from solar panels on my roof, which are leased. Some is from coal though, but less and less! So we are expecting fewer and fewer negative impacts on the environment in the next 20 years as all NM coal plants are closed. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Ditch the LawnWhat is the main water source in your region?
Sandra Mack 10/22/2019 1:05 PMWell, it was a long process - our front yard was all a water-guzzling lawn that had to be mowed every other week in the warm months. I gradually changed most of it over to perennials, and then I penned my chickens on the remaining lawn until they ate it all. Finally, I planted native grass for the new "meadow." The first half was done in the spring and the second just now during the ecochallenge! I love the native lawn - it uses a fraction of the water, and I didn't mow it all summer! -
Sandra Mack 10/18/2019 3:16 PMCome on ABHS team! I hope you all log on to the Ecochallenge every day! Some folks have not logged on yet so let's get going!

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Do you feel that this fact applies to you? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Sandra Mack 10/18/2019 3:16 PMI love walking to work! It gives you time to decompress and switch gears after work, and before work it helps get you in the right frame of mind to get busy! I would love to see way more people walking in Albuquerque. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Talk To My Friends and ColleaguesWhat makes you feel connected to your neighborhood, your neighbors, or another kind of community in your life?
Sandra Mack 10/18/2019 1:17 PMI had a happy hour for my educational colleagues from my high school and offered garden tours and was able to talk to more than 20 people about various sustainable practices including composting, worm farming, chicken "ranching" and growing your greens. It was wonderful fun! -
Sandra Mack 10/15/2019 10:36 AMGo team! We are doing really well, keep up the good work! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Foods DietMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this idea?
Sandra Mack 10/15/2019 10:31 AMI love growing and cooking with whole foods! Whole foods also lend themselves to going more plastic free. Above all, I love to eat real food that has not been routed through some kind of factory, trucked all over the place, and sat on a store shelf for a long time. Health is another great benefit of whole foods. -
