REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthHow do environmental health, community health, and your personal health intersect?
Kaia Lohr 10/02/2019 8:13 PMFirst, my community health centers and professionals dispense information and advice that I use to govern the choices I make regarding my personal health. Then, my choices regarding my health have potential effects on the environment in seemingly small ways such as choosing reusable menstrual products vs disposable ones each month. As I learn the positive effects my choices can have on myself and the environment, I have the ability to spread what I've learned to other members of my community. Once enough of us take action, positive environmental health is a potential outcome. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Kaia Lohr 10/02/2019 8:07 PMI incorporate spending time with friends into excercise by participating in one of my school's dance teams. I practice with my friends at least three times a week. When working out alone, I use the time to get in touch with my body. Rather than ignoring the pain in my muscles or the burn in my lungs, I embrace those feelings in order to feel the ways I push my body and how it pushes me back. In this way I use exercise to check in and ground myself. -
Kaia Lohr 10/02/2019 8:00 PMPracticing gratitude felt a little awkward at first. How does one thank another for illimitable experiences, joys, and lessons within the bounds and confines of a simple email? As it turns out, once I put my fingers to the keys, words of thanks seemed to flow right out of me. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Kaia Lohr 10/01/2019 2:57 PMTo reduce my electricity usage I can make sure to turn off lights when I leave rooms, use sunlight during the day rather than artificial light, unplug electronics that aren't in use, use more blankets rather than turning up the heat, or open windows rather than turning up the air conditioning. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Kaia Lohr 10/01/2019 2:42 PMThe barriers between reusable bottles and bottled water are convenience. If I leave the house without my personal water bottle, I can just buy a disposable one. Or if I don't want to carry around a water bottle all day I can use and throw away a disposable one. But I have started to establish the habit of using my reusable bottle by carrying a bag I can carry it in when I go out. I also prefer using a reusable bottle because I know I'm saving money by reusing my own bottle rather than losing it by buying disposable ones. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteChoosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?
Kaia Lohr 10/01/2019 2:33 PMAs a student, we carry a lot of weight on our backs from the books, notebooks, folders, laptop, and supplies lug around campus. 2-sided printing reduces the mass that we have to carry. Telling my friends that can help them make the switch. I feel like this practice is already encouraged company wide as my professors and the school use 2-sided printed when possible. -
