REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Juanita Lognion 10/09/2019 1:17 PMCleaning is a barrier of using reusable bottles. I have actually switched my bottle to a steel one so that it is more hygienic. I wash it out every day although I am curious if anyone else washes theirs that often. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Juanita Lognion 10/09/2019 12:47 PMFood sovereignty is the right for all people, such as indigenous peoples, to decide what they eat and that it is ecologically, sustainably and culturally appropriate food. It allows people to determine how they grow, produce, raise, and hunt their food locally. Food sovereignty address the cause of health issues related to the modern food systems by allowing all people to define agricultural systems that nourishes the soil, environment, animals and people.
Having said all that it brings me to another question of when you are multiracial, how do you determine culturally appropriate food. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Juanita Lognion 10/07/2019 6:36 AMI actually started eating one meal every other day that had no meat a month ago. I am now trying to do this every day. I believe that people in richer countries eat more meat because it is widely available and families have finances to support it. Also it is promoted to have meat at every meal "Beef it's whats for dinner". Eating meat affects the planet because of the amount of livestock that are being breed and the amount of resources used to support them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Juanita Lognion 10/01/2019 7:26 AMChallenges to using a reusable cup is forgetfulness. I sometimes get out of my routine and that throws me off. What I have been doing is carrying one with me or leaving one at my desk at work. Another trick I have is the night before I get my bag ready for work in which a clean cup goes in. It makes me feel good that I do not contribute to wastefulness of single use cups. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Juanita Lognion 10/01/2019 7:20 AMWhen I find myself forgetting to bring my reusable bag into the store I normally just carry items out in a cart. Most of my bags are in my car so it is easy to transfer from the cart to reusable bags. I usually have one in the door pocket of my car so that it is easy to reach and take with me and the larger ones are in my trunk.-
