REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Karina Leung 10/16/2019 6:35 AMFarmers markets are such a fun place to go! Yes, it's early morning on a Saturday, but it's worth it! I work at a farmers market as a fun side gig, and I get to opportunity of picking fresh, organic, and healthy produce while I'm there! I definitely understand where cost could be an issue, especially for college students, people with large families, or really anyone on a budget. If you're an individual, I think buying a few essential items that you know you need (e.g. leafy greens, roasting vegetables) that will last you the week is a good way to start switching healthier items into your life while supporting our local farmers and community. There's also minimal-no packaging involved when you purchase from a farmer's market (especially if you bring your own bags!!). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Reduce Single-Use DisposablesBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Karina Leung 10/16/2019 6:31 AMI love boba tea, it's my guilty pleasure. Pleasure because it tastes amazing; guilty because it's full of unsustainable packaging. One of the ways I try to reduce my waste consumption is using a reusable boba straw, which I've successfully done every time I've gotten boba since I got it! I also take the boba cup back home with me to wash and recycle because it's got a #1 in the recycling triangle. Unfortunately, I have to throw the plastic film on top away (unless it's a plastic cap, then I can wash and recycle that, too), but I've gone from throwing away 2/3 things to 1/3 when I use my straw. I've also got reusable bags I bring to the grocery store, but I need to remember to bring reusable to-go containers with me when I eat out! So many places still use styrofoam and it hurts my heart :'( </3 -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Karina Leung 10/02/2019 12:38 PMHappiness is a wonderful gift that you can continuously give. And the great thing about it is if you give happiness to another person (in a healthy and genuine way), happiness is returned back to you!
Being genuine and brightening someone's day is just one way we can change the way we interact with people and also how we can get out of our shells and praise those who are making an impact every day. Also, celebrate ourselves in the work we're doing and that we are enough. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Karina Leung 10/02/2019 12:35 PMI really want to prioritize my sleep and focus on how much I'm getting, the habits I'm doing before I go to bed, and ways to help me get up on time. I have trouble falling asleep/staying asleep, but taking steps to improve this essential part of life is so important. I've been tracking my sleep for the past three days in my bullet journal, and right now I get an average of 7 hours, when previously I'd get 5, or wake up tired and rushing out the door.
Turning off the snooze option and letting my alarm ring for indefinite amount of time until I wake up has proved really helpful. I also try to stay away from my phone at night and I always keep it on night mode to avoid exposure to blue light.
