REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Support Native CommunitiesIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
Virginia Leary 10/18/2019 12:34 PMWhen humans feel disconnected from land, they won't stand to protect it. All people should find balance between the land they walk on, the food they eat, and the air they breathe in order to respect it and want to protect it for themselves and others around them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Virginia Leary 10/10/2019 5:26 AMYou notice details and maybe things you cannot pay attention to while driving. You get to breath in fresh air, maybe stop in stores or restaurants and support local business. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Less Screen TimeWhat did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?
Virginia Leary 10/10/2019 5:20 AMI am so much more productive! I hate wasting time on my phone at home when I know there are tasks i can complete but I just sit there and have to convince myself to get up. I don't have my phone for the 45-60 minute classes at the gym so not only am I getting great exercise, i'm also not staring at a screen. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Go for a Daily WalkFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Virginia Leary 10/10/2019 5:18 AMGetting outside of the office is great for mental health and the health of my eyes. After my lunch time walks i feel more energized and refreshed to finish the work day. I've been exploring new parts of the area near my office!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Virginia Leary 10/04/2019 12:45 PMThe fact that we "need" meat with every meal is just effective marketing. Most people in rich countries are lead to believe that if there is no meat they will not have a fulfilling meal, when that is simply not the case. The demand for meat increases the agriculture industries affects on climate change. Rainforests are destroyed for cattle raising, Pig farmers contaminate land and water around their farms. -
Virginia Leary 10/02/2019 1:44 PMSpent half my lunch doing a 30 minute walk in the area around the office. I also called my mom so I could talk to her during this! I ate a vegetarian breakfast and vegan lunch today as well. My lunch was a bit too big so i'm saving the rest for tomorrow's lunch instead of wasting it. -
