I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.

I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 10 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.

Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 3 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.

I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Sasha K 10/23/2019 5:10 PMToday is the last day of the eco challenge. I have become a lot more aware of my actions and their impacts during these three weeks. I plan to continue on my path towards sustainability! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Sasha K 10/23/2019 5:10 PMTransparency. Companies are not transparent about where their products come from, and we are all consumers who don't make our own products and rely on these companies. I think it is their responsibility to be transparent about how these things are sourced and the impact they have on the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Sasha K 10/23/2019 5:08 PMI love outdoor activities and Chicago is especially tough for that since it is so cold for most of the year. I find that in summers when I do go outside more, I am always amazed at the beautiful city we live in. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Sasha K 10/23/2019 5:07 PMI have found that if I sleep too much I am groggy the next day, and too little leaves me feeling fatigued as well. I think tracking the mornings when I feel the best and how much sleep I got the night before would help. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Sasha K 10/23/2019 5:05 PMMost electricity is nuclear, but I have just signed up for solar/wind power! I am hoping that sustainable energy becomes more affordable and more popular. -
Sasha K 10/16/2019 6:14 PMThe eco challenge has made me more conscious about my footprint in every realm, not just those involved in the challenge! I have found myself cutting back on meat products and eating a lot more tofu (organic), and it feels great! -
Sasha K 10/14/2019 2:49 PMFreezing cut veggie medleys has really made meal prep so much easier and has made my meals so much healthier! In 15 minutes I can have fresh veggies with dinner and reduce wastefulness by keeping them frozen instead of letting them go bad. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Try a New Way to PrepCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Sasha K 10/13/2019 3:06 PMI have started to pack fresh produce into ziplock bags and freeze them for easy use later, and it keeps things from going bad while sitting in the fridge!
