Anna's actions
Health
Learn More about Food Deserts
I will spend 15 minutes learning about food deserts and find out how I can advocate for healthy and fresh food in my region.
Health
Support Pollution Reduction
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning about water and air quality issues in my area, how they are impacting human and environmental health, and how I can help.
Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
I will prevent water runoff and increase absorbency by mulching the base of plants and trees at my home or work.
Water
Eco-friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Water
Insulate Water Pipes and Water Heater
I will avoid wasting water while waiting for the shower or sink to heat up.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 3 minute(s) each day.
Transportation
Use Public Transit
I will use public transit 6 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to 140.86 lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 15 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Create Your Own Action

Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 3.4lbs (1.5kg) a month or 41lbs (18.6kg) a year by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will spend at least 15 minutes finding out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in my curbside bin.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterHow do you think climate change will affect your region’s water supply? Think about the effects of weather, storms, salinity, and sea level rise, among other changes. How can you find out more about climate change’s impact to your region's water?
Anna Koch 10/21/2019 5:54 AMWe can see impact of climate change every season - longer and much heater summer at my region decrease growing of vegetables and cereals which then have impact on the food costs. Becasue of this long heat summer season, water level and the rivers is lower and lower as well. We have anormous hails as well. what ever region we are i think water might be a problem in the future. I try to reduce water usage at home and the same trying to teach my kid. we need to be appreciate access to water we have. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Anna Koch 10/18/2019 6:45 AMi think we are not facing very serious water concerns in my area but latest summer season are very dry and then the vegetables and trees are not giving many fruits which then have impact on the food cost and quality. i have small garden so i dont feel this that much as the local farmers where they have huge field. in my garden i use water from my water well, but cant imagine how farmers need to deal with drought on the big fields.
