Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Plant an Herb Garden
Consider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?

I thought this goal would easy, which upon reflection, is exactly why I didn't complete it. For me, the "easy" nature of this task made me feel comfortable pushing out the timeline, letting it linger on the bottom of my "to-do" list, and thinking I didn't need to make a specific plan to get it done. Which is a key take-away. We might be sabotaging our efforts if we label them as "easy" and let all the other things in our lives filter to the top. In the end, I realize that this goal was simple and not easy. There is a big difference between the two.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

The weekends is where this challenge has been the most difficult. If I do a little planning though, and either making something before I leave the house or bringing a mug with me, it all works out.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Use Public Transit
The US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?

Public transport can be a challenge for scheduling, but I've found it a great place to catch up on things like reading, listening to music, etc. It is far more relaxing than driving in traffic!

Taking time to physically write down what I'm grateful for has been a great exercise. It refocuses me toward the positive events that happen everyday.

Speaking of maps, did you know you can use the PCC Shuttle tracker to see where the shuttles are AND see how traffic is flowing around Portland? Simply click on the Traffic button at the top of the page.
