High Impact Action Track
Plant Trees
Nature
I will plant 3 tree(s) in my community, public parks, or backyard.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 15 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 6 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 10 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose LED BulbsChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?
Kimberly Judson 10/23/2019 2:36 PMI went through the PGE website to get free lightbulbs, etc that were more energy efficient. Donated the extras to a women's shelter and a youth center. Also approached my local Lowe's and Home Depot to ask if they would be willing to donate some to local shelters. They donated a some. -
Kimberly Judson 10/22/2019 10:17 AMTomorrow is the last day. Let's blow this out of the water! -
Kimberly Judson 10/21/2019 1:05 PMWe broke the top 10 so happy about that -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Kimberly Judson 10/21/2019 1:04 PMI tend to bring in a bag but wish there were more options on types of bags. More durable for one. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Kimberly Judson 10/21/2019 1:02 PMWe add a lit to our compost but started looking into more things to add. We reduced what we send to landfill and filled our compost bins! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Kimberly Judson 10/21/2019 1:01 PMI prefer using my own water bottle. It is just easier. Doesn't crinkle like the cheap plastic ones do. -
