Waste

Reduce Single-Use Disposables

    Waste
Bringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

A single-use item that I regularly utilize is plastic Ziploc bags for my packed lunches. I have purchased a re-useable sandwich container and other containers to reduce the number of plastic ziplock bags sent to the landfill.

I purchased some mesh produce bags (they are available on Amazon in all kinds of sizes) that I use now for my produce at the store. I figure in the year I have been using them exclusively I have avoided using 100 of the plastic bags at the store. I also use my own canvas bags for groceries instead of the plastic bags at the store.
