Tanya Holmes
"I live an organic and green life. I don't eat anything with red or yellow dye. I recycle everything that is recyclable. I only purchase energy efficient items. I placed all my old lightbulbs with LED lightbulbs. I buy used clothing and shoes. "

Health
Know My health
I will get my Core Four Biometrics tests (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI).
Health
Take Control
Both systemic and personal sustainability are important! I will develop a plan with my medical professionals to achieve my best health and live my life to the fullest.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 30 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 5 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
High Impact Action Track
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Waste
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 3.4lbs (1.5kg) a month or 41lbs (18.6kg) a year by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 5 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 5 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
High Impact Action Track
Zero-Waste Cooking
Food
I will cook 5 meal(s) with zero-waste each day
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will spend at least 5 minutes finding out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in my curbside bin.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Recycle Everything I CanWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Tanya Holmes 10/17/2019 10:37 AM
I have 3 recycle trash bins that are collected each week by my trash collection company. When I have something that is not part of the 3 trash bins I call to schedule an extra pickup. It's more money, but things like electronics get processed safely. -
