Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

Meat is more expensive, therefore people who live in more affluent countries can afford to live a lifestyle that consumes more meat than other places. Eating more meat affects our planet in a variety of different ways. The first thing that comes to my mind is that the overall production and distribution of meat products contributes to the release of carbon, which thereby adds to climate change. Other consequences can include deforestation for livestock and overuse of water sources.
