    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

Orlando's electric plant is coal powered, with most of it's waste being condensed into solid blocks. These are disposed of in a landfill. With Florida's groundwater being so important, the biggest fears are run off from these disposed blocks contaminating the ground water.

    Simplicity Limit Social Media
Social media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also take more time than we realize or intend to give. After doing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?

After dropping social media, I'm feeling much more relaxed and focused. If people really need to contact me, they'll reach out through other more direct methods.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Adjust the Thermostat
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

We contacted our energy company for a free energy savings kit. It gave us a list of energy saving upgrades they offer rebates for, as well as giving us: light bulbs, a reduced flow shower head, wall socket insulated backing, faucet aerators, and insulation tape, as well as instructions on how to use all of them. I guess we have our weekend projects laid out for us now.

My commute is short and solitary, but riding my bike is far less stressful than dealing with traffic.

My pool pump is ancient, and pulls an insane amount of kWh. Decreasing the hours it runs until we can replace it with a more modern, variable speed pump is saving us ~30 kWh a day.
