Stephania Fregosi 10/21/2019 10:04 AMSometimes I look around and I don't know how we acquired so much stuff. We've made good progress on the closets. I'm working on getting rid of unneeded wires, plugs and electronics. We have another drawer of those and I'm pretty sure I can get them recycled at the local electronics store. A lot of what is sitting around is things we bought but unable to return - it's hard to return a package of missized hooks to Amazon, which is a good reason not to buy things like that there. Next time I'm headed off to the hardware store. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Know My healthHow do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?
Stephania Fregosi 10/21/2019 10:01 AMI made a doctor's appointment for Friday, which is after the ecochallenge. I will make a point to ask my doctor about a cholesterol check. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Reduce refined sugarBefore you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?
Stephania Fregosi 10/17/2019 10:52 PMI know I'm addicted to sugar and whenever I skip it, I always feel better. I managed at one point to give it up for three days straight and that's all it took to retrain my taste buds. At that point, a little bit of sweet and a lot of flavor goes a long way. My stomach also feels better. Sugar consumption messes with my blood sugar and leads to more of a swing in my blood sugar levels. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Mulch the Base of Trees and PlantsWhere are your nearest natural bodies of water? How might they be affected by runoff?
Stephania Fregosi 10/17/2019 10:50 PMOur nearest body of water is the Mill Stream, which feeds the Willamette River. The Willamette flows into the Columbia and out to the ocean from their, through Astoria. The Willamette is incredibly polluted from agricultural and urban runoff. We have electric cars, which helps to keep oil out of the stormwater system, as does using organic gardening practices. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity De-Clutter My HomeHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?
Stephania Fregosi 10/17/2019 10:48 PMWe're trying to organize certain areas (e.g. bathroom, basement) to cut down on buying anything that we already have. Remembering to pack travel sized containers of shampoo and soap for trips really helps to cut down on last minute duplicate purchases, that ultimately make it back to the house. I'm trying to use lists to remember what to take on a trip. I hate having to grab an extra phone charger, headphones, or hair brush. Those are big ticket items to forget! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Stephania Fregosi 10/17/2019 10:46 PMI am hoping to start parking my car farther up the hill at PCC; that will allow me to get in some cardio and reduce the time I spend looking for a space. Even the extra five minutes outside will slow me down and help me live life at a realistic pace. -
Stephania Fregosi 10/01/2019 9:41 AMMy ecochallenge largely involves the airplane ICE procedures for parents; take care of yourself so you can take care of others.
1. We've got some kind of plumbing issues. The plumber has been called and a new (sadly) kitchen faucet has been purchased as they don't manufacture the part for the new one anymore. I've called someone else about another potential outdoor leak from a watering system that came with the house, but that we don't use.
2. I'm wearing my best walking shoes. Let me know if you want to join me. As part of my EV lifestyle, I have to go out to the charger every day to check the car and potentially move it. I plan get my walks in by moving the car to the top of the hill on clear days like today.
3. I bought some Maple Almond Butter granola to top off my plain oatmeal and blueberry breakfasts. It's low in sugar and uses a coconut sugar.
4. I cleared off a pile of errands yesterday that should make it easier to do some other challenge related things that I'm not signed up for points for (like getting all of the cans out to the bottle drop).

A little inspiration for us all. -
Stephania Fregosi 9/10/2019 11:49 AMIt's like I'm on an airplane. I have to take care of myself or I can't take care of others. I'm using this time to tune up myself - outdoor walks, cutting out sugar, and tuning up various little environmental needs: mulching the plants, attending to the junk mail problem, and working from home. I'm probably also going to change out a few more lightbulbs in the house just to prove that the federal government doesn't need to roll back lighting regulations.
