"One day, generations will think of polar bears and sharks as creatures that came from fictional children's books; now, isn't that a scary thought."

Water

Say No to Plastic Straws

An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

The main sources of electricity generation include coal, natural gasses, wind, and the sun. This can have a negative impact on the environment due to greenhouse gases being released. This along with many other gasses participate in enhancing climate change.

Another day of gratitude towards earth. I started making time everyday to walk and appreciate life.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Practice Gratitude for Earth
Kathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How do we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?

I personally agree with this quote. For instance, when one is truly grateful for what earth provides, it would be against their morals to contradict their actions by harming earth. How can you love earth and conscientiously mistreat it? As individuals, we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals by either thinking, seeing, or experiencing an impacting event.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Say No to Plastic Straws
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I normally used a significant amount of straws; I just liked using them almost daily with any drink. However, when I became of the damage it was causing our earth, I started using them less and less. I don't think I will substitute straws with anything; drinking from the cup should be good enough.

    Water 5-Minute Showers
Five minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?

I normally take a while when taking baths, thinking that long showers were more effective. After starting to take only 5-6 minute baths, I realized it didn't take too long to have a bath, stay equally clean, and help do my part in saving earth!
