  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

It makes me feel good of course as I know the fact that they use trees to produce paper in the classic production method. OF course, there are alternative ones like they use stones in the production or the used paper...  I will try to use paper in my daily life as less as possible and I will use digital media. Another idea could be using fewer paper towels, toilet papers, using toilet papers that were recycled. It could be also nice to push governments, companies to use digital media, digital signed official documents so that the consumption will be less. This will also lessen the complexity of the process as it's seen from the countries, companies that already imported such methodologies.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

There's not a big barrier not to take any action towards this. Maybe, to remind yourself every time you go out, and carry this bottle with you all the time. As it's mentioned b the word 'habit', if you take your reusable bottle with you, again and again, this will turn into a habit. As the scientific search says, if you do sth over and over more or less 28 days is enough to turn it into an habit. And then, it's not gonna be a difficult thing to do. You will gladly take your nice reusable water bottle every day with you before going out.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Personal Waste Audit
Why is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?

    baris durgun's avatar
    baris durgun 10/10/2019 1:57 AM
Because people live in a hurry and get lost with the things-to-do in their daily life. Another factor could be a lack of awareness and education. If a kid grows up without knowing the facts about that it could cause lack of awareness in the future. Of course, a person can develop awareness himself/herself about those facts but there's a saying
"you can not teach an old dog new tricks
". The media -etiher socia or classic- has also impact on this awareness. It could -not might- impact our future and it does already. if we keep going like this, the climate will change. Farming, water sources, living conditions, and many other factors will be impacted. With all of those, we will be impacted really badly.  Because we depend on the climate and the consistency of the world. We cannot survive without it. But the world can...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

    baris durgun's avatar
    baris durgun 10/10/2019 1:46 AM
It doesn't surprise actually as I reading and I'm aware of this kind of fact.  I would invest that money in the future. It's normal that we have basic needs to survive but buying things that we don't need is such a big burden on the planet we live on. Instead of buying more food than you don't need and throwing it into the trash. You can buy a sapling/tree and plant it somewhere. At least you could decrease your bad impact on the world.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

    baris durgun's avatar
    baris durgun 10/10/2019 1:41 AM
With a quick search, I see that the main generation methodology is done by Thermal  (hard coal & lignite)  with a percentage of 79.6 in 2018. So the impact is not good on the environment as it could increase climate change. It could also impact badly the animals and their natural environment compared to renewable energy production methodologies.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Switch to Cold Water
What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

    baris durgun's avatar
    baris durgun 10/10/2019 1:34 AM
This money-saving maybe is not much but it could be a good contribution for the future especially when you have your own house which has a capacity to produce its own energy from renewable energy sources such as solar panels...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Carry my Trash
What one thing could you do right away to reduce your waste?

    baris durgun's avatar
    baris durgun 10/07/2019 3:22 AM
By changing my eating habits. If I cook my own meal, this would mean less trash rather than buying ready stuff which is packaged inside plastics. There are many ways to avoid but this could be a good point to start.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

    baris durgun's avatar
    baris durgun 10/07/2019 3:20 AM
If I find myself in such a situation, I prefer to buy less things and try them to put in my backpack or sport bag.  However, I always make sure that I have a reusable bag with me all the time.
