Pronomita's actions
Nature
Plant Trees
I will plant 10 tree(s) in my community, public parks, or backyard.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Transportation
Walk Instead
I will walk 5 mile(s) each day instead of driving and avoid sending up to 1.86 lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 5 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 9 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Transportation
Car Share
I will sign up for a car-sharing service, or organize car sharing with my neighbors, to cut down on the number of vehicles on the road.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Food
Meet My Local Farmers
I will visit my nearest farm to find out who produces my food, and will learn about the quality of life of those who produce my food in other regions of the world to make better choices when I shop.
Food
Advocate for More Food Options
Access to affordable, nutritious food is a food justice issue. I will advocate for local and/or organic food options at work, on campus and/or in the spaces I frequent.
Waste
Visit a Waste Management Facility
I will spend at least 60 minutes visiting a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about the waste stream.
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
High Impact Action Track
Research Impact Investing
Simplicity
Using the links provided below, I will research impact investing and deterimine if it is right for me.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Pronomita Dey 10/06/2019 7:51 PMIt's an incredible number, one person contributing to so much of the waste daily with zero knowledge of the impact. I am on the personal challenge of going zero waste daily. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Car ShareTake a moment to think of places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?
Pronomita Dey 10/06/2019 7:50 PMYes, especially pool to work over booking a cab or taking your own vehicle. Use Ola/Uber pooling options and Quickride for commute as much as possible. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Advocate for More Food OptionsWhat efforts would help food insecure regions have access to local, seasonal foods?
Pronomita Dey 10/06/2019 7:49 PMNGOs can be helped recognize such zones better and have periodic sale of their items in your neighborhood. Increase awareness of such upcoming events. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Research Impact InvestingHow might impact investing help you better live your values?
Pronomita Dey 10/06/2019 7:47 PMHelps the conscience. If we are doing nothing, we are destroying. Doing something is the only way forward. -
Pronomita Dey 10/06/2019 7:46 PMSay no to plastic straws and bags and everything plastic you can! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Pronomita Dey 10/06/2019 7:42 PMReduce: buying products with minimum waste, reducing waste generated from my household.
Reuse: using plastic mineral water bottles purchased during travel as home drinking water bottles over buying more bottles.
Refuse: Refusing cutlery and extra packaging materials from takeaways.
Repair: Helping the air around me heal itself my planting trees in my vicinity.
Repurpose: Using paper and other packaging material for covering books and the large containers for personal item storage.
