  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

I would agree. When I first started spending more time outdoors it made me really anxious. I remember my first hike deep into the woods on the Oregon Coast. I was alone and the forest was so quiet that it made me feel such unease.

How do you practice self care?

I try to plan my life. It isn't the fun self care I imagined self care would be, but it gives me peace of mind. I also watch trashy embarrassing TV from time to time.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

I get about 7 hours asleep usually. I would like to get 8 hours of sleep. I know some people can function off of less, but I am not one of them. I think I'd make better choices for my body and the environment if I weren't just trying to stay awake when I roll out of bed to get myself together for the day.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

I think people in richer companies have more choices in general. It seems like the rich-rich these days choose to eat healthier and maybe even vegetarian or vegan. I think the middle class/rich are the ones that end up eating more meat.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

If I find that I don't have a reusable bag I just carry the items out or leave them in the cart after paying and then often times I will have the reusable bags in my car and can just load them up as I unload the cart.
