    Im very impressed with the consistency of teams participation this year. I remember this challenge last year and there seemed to be quite a lot of participation at the start but it tailed off towards the end. Not this year.

    As i've stated previously it's amazing how changing some small things in your life that you often take for granted can have such an impact. In some cases many believe these tasks are too burdensome. This challenge showcases that this is in fact not the case

    During this challenge I have completely stopped using any sort of disposable cup/utensil/ or other eating and drinking vessels. The consistency and need to be diligent for the challenge has helped put this into practice.  I know many of the acts I am practicing now for the challenge will become part of my daily routine beyond the challenge.

    Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

    I have quite a few peppers in my garden currently that I need to pick before it gets way too cold. I was hoping to use the method Dan and Kristilyn shared to pickle my habaneros.

    How does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?

    Responsibility and awearness falls directly on the shoulders of those that are consuming the food. Theres an understand of what is being eaten, how it grew, and where exactly its coming from, not to mention the minimal impact to the enviroment.

    The US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?

    Not at all. Our country has a major stake in many different places around the world. Our military keeps those that are currently in power, in power and wealthy. Even a small cut back from our current sate would help tremendously in the areas of our country that should be benefiting.

    A round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2—per person. That’s a lot of carbon! What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?

    Think of local or nearby places to vacation. Hold meetings digitally. Focus on opportunities for your business that are more locally located.

    Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    It all comes down to availability and means to produce as well as a need for instant gratification. Theres a sense of reuse rather than one time satisfaction in poorer areas. Out of need and necessity. For example a community that relies on its animals for other means not just its meat gets greater use from the animal for a longer duration of time. For example a cow can graze fruital land, provide milk, as well as a means to transport things. It would be only when the cow could no longer produce milk that they may entertain eating the animal. I know there are many other examples of this. A need for instant gratification and poor care of livestock can only have a negative impact on our environment as well as ourselves.

    While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    Much like the question in regards to reusable mugs this all comes down to habit and awareness. I have multiple reusable water bottles however I dont bring it everywhere I go. Instead of viewing this as a burden, I should view this as an opportunity. Not only for myself but to educate others. Plus I get to slap stickers on my water bottles.

    Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit?     For me personally its all about habit. Once something becomes routine it is easier to follow through on it. Once using a reusable mug becomes integral to my daily routine and the act of grabbing it in the morning, filling it up, returing it home and washing for the next day becomes second nature it will become easy. Because this is such a simple and easy habit to break the ultimate effect that this can have if everyone does this will be monumental.
