Kathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How do we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?

In my new area the song birds are not as prolific, and so I am finding myself missing them.  I am fortunate to own a house where I used to live, and it has outside security cameras, and sometimes I log in to the cameras to listen to the sound of the morning.  My sense of loss over this daily environmental asset is tempered by my gratefulness for the privilege of being able to hear the birds at my house any time I want.

Native Americans and other people who live close to the land are most affected by degradation of natural resources.  Water and air pollution perpetrated by irresponsibility leads to higher rates of illness such as cancers from toxins released into streams and rivers, and asthma and other respiratory illnesses in at-risk populations.
