How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

We take family walks with our dog Otis daily.  We have headlamps (even my 3 yr old) so we can be seen in the dark.  We have small trails around home that we often visit in the summer and fall months.  Winter time is a little harder to get outside but my son LOVES to be chased around the house so this keeps us plenty active.  My dog barks at all of us while we run around.  It's total chaos.
I also often run with friends.  I have been running half marathons for 10 years now.  While I think I might be retired from these long runs, I still make Sat morning dates with my friends that are training and go on some short to mid length runs.

How does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?

I haven't eaten meat in 30  years.  However I have recently started a more plant based diet including way more fruits and veggies.  My husband is now also eating WAY less meat as well.  We have much for energy and our bodies are beginning to heal

    Energy Adjust the Thermostat
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

Turning off lights has been a bad habit for me since I was a kid.  My mom always yelled at me.  This challenge has kept turning lights off on the forefront of my mind and I have been SO much better about it!  It's such a small and simple thing but it does make a big difference.  Shutting down my computer is also something I never do as I always have tabs and tasks open for the next day.  I have learned to  make folders and set reminders to help me shut down and save that small amount of energy.

How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

We are on gas in our home.  We actually just installed a new energy efficient hot water heater.  Our heating and air condition unit is new and also energy efficient.  We installed central air into our home a few years ago and invested in a zoned unit to help save on energy costs.

We went away on vacation to a log cabin.  We turned the heat off and we turned the water off in the whole house.  At the log cabin we lit a fire to stay warm and kept the heat down, we went hiking and taught our son about nature and the danger of some bugs like ticks, we took short showers to conserve water.  I forgot to log my dashboard while away but I'm keep track of all my improvements!

On a roll!!!  I already do so much to but these  few things were easy things I was not doing.  Exercising daily and feeling great!

Been getting in the habit of shutting down my computer each night and putting the files I need open in a folder on my desktop.  My husband and I have also been conscious of turning out the lights.  I made a commitment to go back to the gym daily and I started a plant based diet (I feel so much better!).  We already compost and recycle daily.

I chose things that are simple things yet are necessary and I don't always do.  This has been a daily reminder to power down, turn off lights, turn up thermostat while I'm not home.  I started going back to the gym 2 weeks ago and I started a plant based diet 2 weeks ago as well so exercise and adding fruits and veggies also started before this challenge began and this just motivates me to keep going.
