Michael's actions
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Water
Install a Low-Flow Showerhead
I will save up to 15 gallons (56 L) of water a day by installing a low-flow showerhead.
Energy
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Michael Cannon 10/23/2019 4:30 PMI love the different ideas this challenge has provided of how to positively change my impact on the environment. I chose actions that were a libit outside my norm and am going to keep doing so moving forward! I wish I joined the challenge sooner! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Michael Cannon 10/23/2019 3:18 PMI feel like most everyone appreciates uplifting words. When I am grateful for someone (in any capacity) I try to tell them! I think it's the least I can do. By identifying what I am grateful for it seems to make the negatives in life less impactful. Just a little bit of sunshine through the fog we call "The Present". -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Michael Cannon 10/23/2019 3:11 PMIn my area, the green organic waste bin also accepts compost. It feels so good knowing that our leftover compostable food (mainly fruit & vegetable trimmings) can be used to create large amounts of compost rather than go into the landfill with the rest of our trash. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Recycle Everything I CanWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Michael Cannon 10/22/2019 11:01 AMIn my area, our local Haulers will accept almost everything for recycling, the most difficult part about recycling is when there are plastics that do not have the imprint stating what type of plastic it is, with further investigation/research I can sometimes find it. If not, I elect to purchase different products instead.
