Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

Preparing food helps not only with our environment, but with our health.  I have prepared food from my garden to enjoy later.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I have reduced baggies, one time containers of yogurt and taking plastic bags from the store for my groceries.  Even if I forget to take a bag in, usually I just carry my items to the car.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

Being on the go a lot, or in a rush makes grabbing a water bottle so much easier.  Generally, it is said, if you do something for 30 days it becomes a habit, so this is day 3

    Waste Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

I haven't noticed anything about how much I am tossing, seems normal to me.  I will use the compost in my garden next year

Happy Energy Efficiency day!  I try to keep my A/C set around 77 to 78 Degrees.  I was hoping to keep it off in October, but hard to do in this heat!  Proves why we need to be more aware!
