High Impact Action Track
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Waste
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Water
Get Involved in the Water Justice Movement
I will spend at least 10 minutes using the resources provided to learn about water justice and find out how I can get involved in local initiatives.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper each day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.

Kelsey Behm 10/07/2019 7:20 AMI've timed all my showers to keep them under 5 minutes and have been really successful! It helps me get ready faster and it also helps me think about other water usage, like the sink while brushing my teeth or doing the dishes. -
Kelsey Behm 10/03/2019 12:08 PMToday, I timed my shower and cut it down to 8 minutes 55 seconds! -
Kelsey Behm 10/03/2019 12:07 PMLast night, I was packing my lunch and chose to bring my apple slices in a tupperware instead of a plastic bag. I also kept my sugar snap peas in their original bag, bringing the whole thing with me, instead of putting servings into plastic bags.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Reduce Single-Use DisposablesBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Kelsey Behm 10/02/2019 7:49 AMI regularly use a reusable straw, reusable water bottle, and pack my own lunches in tupperware for work. I can reduce the amount of plastic bags I use to pack lunches for myself and my kids on a daily basis and use more reusable tupperware instead. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersFive minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?
Kelsey Behm 10/02/2019 7:48 AMThis is going to be a huge step for me. I currently take approximately 15 minute showers. I will have to HUSTLE to make this happen. I will also have to do some prep before getting in the shower, like using my makeup remover ahead of time to reduce my shower time.-
Veronika Vazhnik 10/03/2019 2:18 PMI can relate! I came yesterday from a long bike ride and timed my shower to 4min 30second - was hard on such a cold day, but you'll get there! -
Amanda Gates 10/02/2019 7:57 AMIt's especially hard when the weather is getting colder - but you got this!

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Choose Two-Sided PrintingChoosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?
Kelsey Behm 10/02/2019 7:46 AMI believe our company encourages all employees to use two-sided printing whenever possible. We have really moved away from a majority of our hardcopy printing and have begun using electronic copies much more often. I need to set the settings on my new work laptop to automatically print double sided. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Kelsey Behm 10/02/2019 7:45 AMI purchased a 32oz stainless steel water bottle to use each day at work. At home I drink out of glass cups, not water bottles. I also use a silicone reusable straw in my work water bottle to reduce my use of straws.
