I did it! Only used reuseable bags for a recent shopping trip (while camping.) Also, am regularly watching the sunrise and/or sunset. On the OR coast, I notice that sunset- watching is a very popular activity. People flock to the beach and sit, wander, play with kids and dogs, and then just stand there in peace while the sun sinks. Wonderful!

Portland has a new law that went into effect Oct 1, that requires restaurant patrons to request single-use plastic items ( rather than being given them automaticlly) This seems sooo sensible! We chatted with this lovely restaurant owner who said that although some guests were grumpy about it, the law was reducing waste and saving her a lot of money.

Waste Use Reusable Bags

What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

When traveling, it has been difficult to BYOBags ( for produce, bulk, etc. Items), although bringing reuseable totes is easy. Hard to wash bags when camping! Perhaps cloth bags would work best, maybe I'll try that next trip...

Since were traveling, this will be harder to do. Harder to get online, and harder to do the sustainable behaviors I do at home. But we're in Oregon, Home of the EcoChallenge, so it should still be possible , and an interesting challenge!
