Dominique's actions
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 2 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

Dominique Arredondo-Mejia 10/10/2019 1:01 AMWorked on managing my waste, specifically with bottled water use (buying a good reusable water bottle from a local store), and straw use by buying metal straws to keep in my water bottle. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Dominique Arredondo-Mejia 10/10/2019 12:59 AMI could incorporate reduce/reuse in my lifestyle when it comes to waste, and water use. With repair/re-purpose I incorporate this in products I buy or even clothing. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Dominique Arredondo-Mejia 10/10/2019 12:57 AMBuying a reusable water bottle prevents the need to continue purchasing bottled water. Getting a bottle from a local shops or even reusing plastic ones can make a difference. For myself, I invested in a hydro flask and completely stopping buying bottled water all together. -
Dominique Arredondo-Mejia 10/07/2019 3:56 PMCurrently working on managing food waste and where I get my foods from. Especially with a large low income household, I often try to look in local markets, food banks, etc to try to find healthier and Eco friendly options. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Dominique Arredondo-Mejia 10/07/2019 3:49 PMfood sovereignty addresses the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems by stabilizing people's lively hoods by creating equitable distribution of the transition costs and benefits. Though there are numerous factors depending on what area of the world one is in. As things in the world are changing food sovereignty gives people the right to have healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods.
