Fatema's actions
Transportation
Work from Home
I will work from home 2 day(s) to avoid my commute's carbon output.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Transportation
Stay on the Ground
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Food
Try a New Way to Prep
I will try a new method of food preparation, such as canning, pickling, or baking bread.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 15 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 0 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 2 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Simplicity
Track my Purchases
I will spend 10 minutes each day maintaining a record of all my purchases and learning about my spending habits.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Needs Vs. WantsHow is creativity necessary for practicing simplicity?
Fatema Adamji 10/23/2019 9:25 AMSometimes you have to think outside the box to find an easy fix to your complicated process. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?
Fatema Adamji 10/23/2019 9:24 AMYou can attempt to swap clothes with friends, visit second hand clothing stores and learn how to mend some of your clothes (or take them to a professional) to give them life again. -
Fatema Adamji 10/23/2019 9:21 AMWow! Can't believe we are near the end of the eco-challenge. I can definitely do better. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Fatema Adamji 10/23/2019 9:21 AMI could buy less packaged produce such as greens (these tend to come in plastic containers). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Work from HomeIt takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. Are you in an industry that would allow you to work from home? What are some obstacles you might find yourself facing while working from home?
Fatema Adamji 10/23/2019 9:20 AMYes, I am allowed to work from home. I find it distracting being so close to my bed but also do not have a proper working space that can help me get into the zone. I also miss chatting with my coworkers and having lunch with them when I am alone at home. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Try a New Way to PrepCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Fatema Adamji 10/23/2019 9:18 AMI love summer fruit and home made food from my aunt. I like to freeze those dishes to enjoy when I am feeling homesick. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Fatema Adamji 10/23/2019 9:18 AMIt can make you appreciate nature more, help ground yourself as you step away from your daily hustle and bustle an as well improve your mood! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Fatema Adamji 10/23/2019 9:17 AMYes, this is a huge amount of wasted food. I would rather use this on my rent! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Fatema Adamji 10/23/2019 9:16 AMThere is more access to food and people can afford to. Eating more meat means more land is required for pasture which leads to less land available for forests (which are important for oxygen creation) and this contributes to global warming -
Fatema Adamji 10/16/2019 8:29 AMI have not been great with checking in daily recently.
