  • Reflection Question
    Energy Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?

Well, the conversations are happening everywhere. I was riding my bike home yesterday and heard two women walking down the street talking about how Mississippi is sinking. The awareness is more broad than ever and people are starting to act. There's a petition circulating to get Oregon to produce only green energy by 2035. That's a start.
  • Reflection Question
    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

Hydro, wind, natural gas, coal, solar... hydro impacts fish, wind impacts birds and bats, natural gas is an extractive energy, coal is dirty and putting towns out of work with their automation, solar is limited to daylight. There's no one solution that will work for everything, but smart combinations of green energy plus micro-grids to help small community resilience is the future.
  • Reflection Question
    Transportation Go by Bike
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking, or driving?

I only drive twice a week because it is the fastest way to get where I need to be on those two days. I ride to work via the incredible bike infrastructure in the close-in neighborhoods. I think about the heavy bike traffic and wonder how much worse the car traffic would be if each of us were in our cars every day. Riding to work and home everyday helps to clear my mind and make me present when I arrive at my destination.

How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

Gratitude directs us to lead our lives with love. It helps to give us perspective that we are a tiny part of this big world and small actions of love have big impact.
  • Reflection Question

If you were to only eat what is in season locally, what would be the hardest food item for you to give up?

The hardest food item for me to give up would be coffee.

Turned off the lights in empty rooms, had a meatless Monday, played a few tough rounds of Boggle with the kids ("shoelace" = 5 points!). Pretty good ecochallenge Monday!

Went to the Gobble Up Portland festival on Saturday. Sampled some fine local products. Happy to support the local maker economy!
