The main source of water for our region is the Bull run Reservoir, and we are privileged to have on of the purest, cleanest water sources in the world.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

    Anna Morgan's avatar
    Anna Morgan 10/15/2019 10:09 AM
I refuse to use plastic straws, and have been since this summer.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

    Anna Morgan 10/15/2019 10:08 AM
I have been composting much more now than ever before.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

I use my backpack to store most of my non-grocery purchases, and continue to use my fabric bags for groceries.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Use Public Transit
The US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?

    Anna Morgan's avatar
    Anna Morgan 10/15/2019 10:07 AM
I believe that it should be allocated the following way: Education: 20%, Defense: 2%, 20% for Social Security, and 3% for transportation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
High Impact Action Track Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Anna Morgan 10/15/2019 10:06 AM
I have chosen not to use plastic grocery bags for non-grocery items, and reuse my waxed lined sandwich bags for lunch every day.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Take Control
How do environmental health, community health, and your personal health intersect?

All of these elements directly complement each other because we can't have a healthy ecosystem without all of them working together.
