Elisa Garcia 10/24/2019 1:22 AMMy participation in the Ecochallenge has been extremely positive for me, but also for a lot of people around me (family, colleagues, friends) as I've transmited my learnings to them. I've learnt about plastics and how to reduce waste (using a cup now for my daily orange juice at the office), I've learnt new recipes without meat, my children are now taking vegetarian sandwiches to school and we have reduced significantly the meat consumption. I've also changed other buying habits, reusing bags and packaging to avoid increasing my waste. I have started to use an App to check how healthy the products in supermarkets are. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Work-Life BalanceHow might practicing work-life balance lead to a more sustainable life for yourself? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Elisa Garcia 10/24/2019 1:06 AMIf I become more effective and efficient in my work, keeping in mind that I need to respect the time to leave the office, instead of allowing myself to stay longer, I save energy (e.g: electricity), have a longer time to be with my children and disconnect and can go to bed earlier. It has a positive impact on my children as well, as they can also go to bed earlier. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity De-Clutter My HomeHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?
Elisa Garcia 10/24/2019 1:03 AMI'm now much, much more conscious on the need to stop buying things that you don't really need or will use a lot. Specially clothes and shoes is something that I had already reduced a lot, but now I'm thinking twice about my real needs, before I buy anything new. I'm also sharing this with my children, so that they're conscious too. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Talk To My Friends and ColleaguesWhat makes you feel connected to your neighborhood, your neighbors, or another kind of community in your life?
Elisa Garcia 10/24/2019 1:01 AMSince I'm living in the same area since 18 years, I know well a lot of people who work in the shops around or who have their own businesses. This has a very positive impact in our lives, as we care for each other and try to make our lives easier/better, by sharing experiences and best practices. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Elisa Garcia 10/24/2019 12:58 AMI sleep around 6.5 hours during the working days and around 9 to 10 during the weekends. Since I started the Ecochallenge, I'm sleeping a bit more than 7 hours during the working days and this is having a significant positive impact on my well-being. The key is to have dinner earlier, so that there's still some time left to relax afterwards and then go to sleep also earlier. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Elisa Garcia 10/24/2019 12:55 AMAs richer countries have access to more expensive products and a higher variety of products, they consume much more meat than people in poorer countries.
The most negative impact on the planet comes from cows, due to the very high CO2 emission, the high consumption of water and the deforestation to have big enough spaces to raise them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Elisa Garcia 10/01/2019 5:28 AMWhat concerns me the most is that many people still haven't realized the impact that each of us have on the future of our planet and just blame the governments, companies, ... We all can contribute much more than we think and we need to move fast and consistently.
This type of eco-challenge should be promoted by all companies, schools, cities, ... regularly. as they help enormously to learn about what else can you do and trigges the change of habits
